Princeton Flemington Eye Institute joins NJ Commission for the Blind & Visually Impaired for vision screening

September 15, 2014

On Saturday September 13th, Dr. Cristin Subramaniam participated in a free vision screening organized by the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired (CBVI). The screening was held at the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. The screening was a part of a CBVI project which aims to provide free vision screenings for underserved patients with the goal of saving sight and restoring vision. About 75 patients with diabetes were screened for diabetic eye disease at the vision screening. Patients were also screened for cataracts and glaucoma. "The screening was very well organized due to the hard work of the individuals at CBVI. It was rewarding to provide care to patients from the community who otherwise would not have access to these services. We were able to educate patients about eye health and identify patients who need further testing or treatment to prevent vision loss," said Dr. Subramaniam.
