LASIK & PRK

Freedom from glasses & contact lenses so you can do the things you love!

LASIK eye surgery is a safe and effective treatment that reshapes the cornea to produce clear vision. It can treat nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism to reduce the need for glasses or contact lenses. More than 1 million Americans undergo LASIK each year. Most patients experience 20/20 vision or better following LASIK surgery.

A good candidate for LASIK must meet several requirements. You should be at least 18 years old, demonstrate no change in your eyeglass prescription for at least one year, and have realistic expectations regarding the results of the surgery. To determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK, our physicians will perform a comprehensive eye examination and a pre-LASIK eye examination.

After LASIK, many patients experience immediate improved vision but it can take up to 6 months for vision to stabilize. There is usually no discomfort following the procedure. Most patients are very pleased with the results of LASIK. A successful outcome results in improved vision without glasses or contact lenses, and the freedom to enjoy sports, swimming and other daily activities without any restrictions.

A small number of patients (1 to 5% according to FDA) experience complications such as light sensitivity, haloes, glare, dry eyes, and loss of visual clarity. Fortunately, new advances have reduced complications associated with LASIK.

Selecting a LASIK surgeon is perhaps the most important decision in the LASIK procedure. Your decision should not be based solely on the cost of surgery or office location. Your outcome depends on the surgeon so do your research to find an experienced, reputable and qualified physician.

At Princeton Flemington Eye Institute, we have many years of experience performing LASIK surgery with the newest techniques and have helped our patients see more clearly without the use of glasses or contacts.
